Skincare Consultation

A good skincare regime is important for maintaining healthy looking skin but knowing what to use can be challenging. Everyone’s skin is different so what may work for one individual may not be best for another. At Skinology Medical Aesthetics, we understand that you are unique and so is your skin. Whether you are looking for help on building a new skincare routine, advice on a current regime or in need of medical grade products to address specific skin concerns, we are able to customise a skincare plan for you.

Medical grade skincare can be used for acne, scarring, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, lines and wrinkles and skin rejuvenation.

About Skincare Consultation

Everyone’s skin is unique, so it’s important to use products personalised for your specific skin needs and goals.
At Skinology Medical Aesthetics, we offer a range of skincare products including a plethora of Korean products inspired from natural ingredients and medical grade products from brands such as Obagi®, Neostrata®, Teoxane® and Klira®.
Medical grade skincare products cannot be bought from shops or salons and many are prescription only. They are only available from a registered and trained medical professional. The difference between these products and those you can buy over the counter is that medical grade skincare products have extensive clinical evidence to support claims that they are effective. In addition, formulations must undergo rigorous testing and meet strict standards to ensure they are safe for use.
Medical grade skincare delivers superior results. Formulations generally contain higher concentrations of scientifically backed active ingredients such as tretinoin, retinol, hydroquinone and arbutin. They penetrate deeper into the skin and target specific skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation and signs of ageing.

Step 1: Consultation and Consent

A comprehensive consultation is always undertaken to assess your needs, understand expectations and to help formulate a customised and safe plan.

During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss your skincare goals and any specific skin concerns you may have. The practitioner will undertake a medical history and skin assessment and ask details about your current skincare routine.

At Skinology Medical Aesthetics, we also offer the option to use an advanced facial skin analyser that utilises state of the art digital imagery to analyse your skin health and create a customised report. It can also accurately assess and diagnose a wide range of skin conditions.

Based on the assessment, the practitioner will customise a skincare plan for you. If you have any specific skin concerns, they will also provide their expert opinion about realistic and expected outcomes. If medical grade skincare products are advised, they will discuss any possible side effects in detail.

You are strongly encouraged to consider all the benefits and risks explained to you as part of the consultation to make an informed decision about treatment. Clarify anything you are unsure about. It is important not to rush into any decisions. Treatment will only go ahead if both you and the practitioner agree and are happy to proceed, and after you have provided written consent to treatment.

Step 2: Skincare Treatment

Depending on the product(s) recommended, the practitioner will explain the rationale for use, how to use the product, any possible side effects and any special precautions.
Pre- and post-treatment photos will be taken and held by the clinic for medical documentation purposes.

Step 3: Review

  • Depending on the indication, your practitioner will advise on appropriate timeframe for a review.

LEADERSHIP TO EXCELLENCE

Founder & Clinical Director

Yogita Dawda

As the Founder and Clinical Director of Skinology Medical Aesthetics, my passion for dermatology started during university as an undergraduate and stemmed from my personal struggle with acne throughout my teens and early adulthood. I recall vividly the effect of having bad skin on my confidence but with the right support, I was able to love my skin and myself again.

After graduating in 1999, I started working in a large NHS teaching hospital where I was fortunate to gain experience in a wide range of clinical areas. In 2002, I chose to specialise in mental health where I practised as an independent prescribing pharmacist. In 2022, I became one of the first credentialed Consultant Pharmacists by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), awarded to individuals who have demonstrated delivery of expert level clinical care and influenced positive change across the healthcare.

FAQs

A Medical Aesthetics Clinic is run or led by medical professionals who use their medical expertise to provide non-surgical cosmetic treatments to enhance or maintain one’s natural beauty and help address specific concerns such as wrinkles, pigmentation, acne, scars and ageing. All procedures are performed by qualified medical professionals.

Like most other medical treatments, non-surgical cosmetic procedures carry some risks so it’s important to ensure the procedure is performed by a professional qualified and experienced in medical aesthetics with appropriate knowledge in facial anatomy and expertise in recognising and managing any complications safely should they occur.

Absolutely. At Skinology Medical Aesthetics, before any treatment is provided, a face to face consultation with a medical practitioner is essential to help us understand your concerns, undertake a thorough assessment and recommend the most suitable treatment plan tailored to your needs and budget.
